A Cross-Disciplinary Dialogue: White Collar Crime & Business Bankruptcy

Global Conference on Third-Party Financing of Litigation

This second of two policy conferences will feature the work product of SCJI’s public policy initiative entitled Third-Party Financing of Litigation: Civil Justice Friend or Foe?  SCJI has commissioned ten papers by leading international scholars to evaluate the legal and economic issues likely to arise with the expansion of third-party financing of litigation.  Particular attention is paid to the potential impact of third-party financing on economic growth and free enterprise systems throughout the world.

In addition to the participating scholars, the conference will feature legal practitioners, financiers, and others with an interest in third-party financing of litigation.  By bringing together a group of leading scholars and front-line practitioners, SCJI hopes to stimulate an informative and balanced discussion of third-party financing and potential policy concerns

MassBay DNA and Civil Liberties Conference II

Exploring the American Family

Call for Papers: Tennessee Journal of Race, Gender, and Social Justice

Call for Papers:

The Editorial Board of The Tennessee Journal of Race, Gender, and Social Justice (”RGSJ”) invites submissions for consideration in its inaugural Volume I publication.

RGSJ is a legal journal designed to utilize legal analysis and interdisciplinary research to discover new conclusions that aim to ameliorate the racial, gender, and social injustices plaguing today’s society. The goal of RGSJ is to provide an interdisciplinary forum that allows individuals to discuss these topics in depth, so people will be thoroughly educated by various works in its publication. As a result, RGSJ will play a key role in framing the debate on race, gender, and social justice issues by raising awareness, offering intelligent analyses, and propositioning solutions.

Written works that will be considered for publication are case studies, case comments, narrative submissions, and articles. In the 2011-2012 academic year, RGSJ will publish one issue. Articles for the issue will be considered throughout the fall and into the early spring on a rolling basis. To be considered for the first issue, required materials MUST be submitted no later than 11:59 PM EST on November 4th, 2011.

Additional deadlines and information about the RGSJ symposium will also be forthcoming on our website.

All works must contain a legal and interdisciplinary analysis that is related to race, gender, or social justice. We will particularly welcome topics that include discussions on health care, immigration, administrative law, drugs, trafficking in persons, neighborhood crime, disaster recovery, bankruptcy, housing, education, and any other topics addressing racial, gender or social justice issues.

All works must be typed, triple-spaced, one-inch margins, and 12-point Times New Roman font. Any articles submitted must be at least 15 pages in length.

Call for Papers: Who then in law is my neighbour? Donoghue v Stevenson: 80 years on

Call for Papers:

Practising and academic lawyers from any part of  the world and of any nationality are invited to respond to the Call for Papers. Speakers will be selected on the basis of  abstracts submitted in response to the Call for Papers.

Abstracts should be submitted by Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 and will be selected by the Donoghue v  Stevenson International Conference 2012 Papers Review Committee.

Papers may focus on  any aspect of tort, negligence, and delict which is pertinent to the general  overall rationale of the event, however, preference will be afforded to the  following key themes:

  • New insights into Donoghue v Stevenson as arguably the  world’s most influential decision (historical, cultural, etc.);
  • The influence of Donoghue v Stevenson upon access to  justice and the role of crusading lawyers in changing law and effecting  justice;
  • The state of  negligence laws/consumer protection today; and
  • Is it time for another Donoghue v. Stevenson (i.e., should  we take the next step on to stricter modes of liability for products and other  services).
  • Donoghue v. Stevenson and human rights
  • Donoghue v. Stevenson in the commercial arena
