ABA Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section: Bankruptcy On The Bayou: Gris Gris For The Surety In Bankruptcy Court

Date(s) of Conference:

May 5-7, 2010

Location:

Loews New Orleans Hotel
300 Poydras St
New Orleans, LA, 70130-3216

Description:

The Fidelity and Surety Law Committee will host its Spring meeting in New Orleans, May 5-7, 2010, where, in conjunction with a one and one-half day seminar on the topic, we will present our latest publication – The Surety and Bankruptcy. Among the authors of this book are noted surety practitioners with expertise in navigating the often rough waters of a principal’s or obligee’s bankruptcy. Program attendees will receive a copy of The Surety and Bankruptcy, the most extensive work ever published on this topic.

The seminar, as the name implies, will focus on those unique aspects of bankruptcy law which are of interest to surety attorneys. However, the seminar is aimed at all levels of experience, from those who have never set foot in bankruptcy court to those with a very high level of expertise. Starting on the first day with Bankruptcy 101, we progress in a methodical manner to the second day’s discussion of some of the more sophisticated defensive moves a party can make to improve its position in bankruptcy. Also on the second day, we are very fortunate to have two Bankruptcy Court judges as panelists to give us a view from the bench.
